Judy Clark, L.P.C. counselor

About Me:

Welcome! Thank you for visiting my website. I sincerely hope you will find the direction you need.

I began my career path as a Licensed Professional Counselor in a round-about way. I earned my RN in nursing and then completed a specialty as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner from Texas Women’s University. I earned a Masters in Adult Christian Community Development at Regis University, Denver, Colorado followed by a Masters in Counseling at University of North Texas. Each year, continuing education courses keep me updated and energized with new learning.

I have 25 years of experience as a counselor serving adults, pre-marrieds, marrieds, adolescents and families. I have done extensive work over the years in Family Systems Theory, Grief & Loss, Marriage Readiness, Marriage Relationship Health and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Counseling sessions are focused on your personal needs and goals. Often a person or couple seeks counseling when they feel stuck and unhappy and don’t know how to bring about change.  Often they have suffered great loss and can’t seem to move forward. There is a need for new thinking to identify ways to work through issues differently.

I see the counselor as a change agent, helping clients get to a better place focusing on their specific needs. Note: Your personal spiritual needs are always respected and can be a source of strength in the sessions, if preferred.

Thought For the Day: Managing During These Times

The Coronovirus crisis has certainly brought some extra stress and anxiety into our lives. It’s important to recognize our stress signals so we can de-rail the “stress response” and activate our “relaxation response” early on. That way we can help our body, mind, and spirit to heal the cumulative effects of stress. Suggestions:

  • Slow      deep breathing while counting to 5 while inhaling and exhaling.
  • Muscle      relaxing from head to toe in a progressive sequence.
  • Mindful      meditation  while breathing deeply.
  • Regular      exercise of just about any form of motion boosts metabolism and mood.
  • Both Play     and Prayer evoke the relaxation response and relieve stress.      Journaling in prayer defuses negative emotions and releases creativity.      Prayer mantras pull us back to God as the center of our life and lower      anxiety. The Serenity Prayer is      a sure-fire choice. Look out for “symptoms of inner peace” if you pray regularly and take time to play!
